Be sure to come out and support our Team! Southern Comfort Cabin Rentals will be competing in the relay division of  Tri the Mountains a sprint Triathlon in the North Georgia mountains! When Heather and CJ Stam of Southern Comfort Cabin Rentals worked as volunteers at the 2010 race a friendly challenge was cast by one of the owners and now title sponsor Escape to Blue Ridge. Not one to shy away from a friendly nudge, we answered the call! A team of three racers will each take one leg of the race. CJ Stam of Southern Comfort Cabin Rentals will start with a splash into a 600 yard fresh water swim in Lake Blue Ridge. Followed by Greg Dunn a local personal trainer and former professional cyclist who will then venture out and  on his road bike over an 18 mile mountain course. then our anchor Mike Cosentino of the Big Peach Running Company will then dash 3.2 miles from the Marina to Downtown Blue Ridge.

Spectators, family, friends and support teams will all cheer as racers enter the Historic town of Blue Ridge to cross the finish line. The 2011 Triathlon is presented by local businesses Escape to Blue Ridge and Harvest on Main along with several national name brands. Tri the Mountains is a non profit organization and pledges a portion of all proceeds to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Be sure to stick around for awards ceremony to see the winners take their prizes in the shade of the city park.

SoCo’s Weenie-N-Veggie Soup – Great Vegetable Soup Recipe with a mountain Twist!

Weenie-N-Veggie Soup… AKA Hot Dog Soup.

This twisted Soup idea was conjured by my wife on one fall afternoon. She wanted a hearty all veggie soup and I was craving something that had a bit more to it! She made a fantastic vegetable broth veggie filled pot of goodness. And then I took the recipe one step forward and diced up some hot dogs and there you have it… Weenie-N-Veggie Soup

Here’s the recipe:

Mix in 1 LARGE POT

1 Liter of vegetable broth

1 Small bag of fresh baby carrots sliced

1 Stalk of fresh green onion chopped

3 cups of fresh slice okra

1.5 Cups of kennel corn

8 Diced peeled potatoes

1 Can diced seasoned tomatoes

2.5 Cups of cut green beans

2 cups of precooked lima beans

1 cup of precooked black eyed peas

Simmer covered for 45 minutes to an hour

Add All-season or spices to taste.

That’s the veggie part. Now you have two options:

1.      Add 1 pack of diced nitrate free all beef franks (weenies) before simmering or

2.      Add 1 Frank per bowl as desired.

Either way you have a fantastic soup that can be enjoyed anywhere!

“Just Aska Bear” Which way to the Trail?

Aska TrailsEverybody knows that hiking and biking is great exercise. But did you know that it can be relaxing as well? Just Aska Bear! We love this cabin name. There are so many fun things you can do with it.

We recently discovered a great cabin in the Aska Adventure Area near all of the great trails. When we say near, imagine a path leading directly from the hot tub deck past two rocking chairs down a slight incline and you’re there! This short path takes you right from the back door to the Green Mountain Trails. Just across Aska Rd. guests can access all of the other great Aska trails like Stanley gap or Deep Gap. A world of great mountain adventure opportunities without even having to think about packing a car. Needless to say, you pass the hot tub on your way out, so chances are good it will still be there when you get back.

Relax… You and some friends have just finished an awesome bike ride through the country side on your road bikes or a vigorous mountain bike ride down to lake blue ridge on the Green Mountain trail. Arriving back to your cabin you find the other half of your group cooking burgers on the grill and enjoying some cool beverages. Let the recovery began and relax the night away… Read a book on the screened in back porch, melt in the hot tub, get competitive in the game room, or just kick your feet up and watch a movie. Its all here. And finally when its time to recharge your batteries for tomorrow, sink in to the ultra comfortable cushion top mattress surrounded by a full aspen log bed.

Bring your bikes, boats, polls, boots, buddies and babes… Just Aska Bear is just right!

This recently renovated and well thought out vacation rental cabin in the Aska Adventure area is now available for rent with Southern Comfort Cabin Rentals.

Find Quality Time this Season…

Nearly 20 years ago a book was published describing the five basic ways people show love for others and, in return, feel loved by others. Out of the five ways described “spending quality time together” is the number one way people feel loved. Take the quiz.

People cherish their vacation memories because they are spending time with those they love or, at the very least, those they care for and like a lot. Our hospitality and management philosophy is based on the belief that time is precious and nothing is more valuable than the quality time people spend with their friends and family.

Quality Time “In the vernacular of Quality Time, nothing says, “I love you,” like full, undivided attention. Being there for this type of person is critical, but really being there–with the TV off, fork and knife down, and all chores and tasks on standby–makes your significant other feel truly special and loved. Distractions, postponed dates, or the failure to listen can be especially hurtful.” ~ Gary Chapman’s best-selling book, The Five Love Languages
